Adoptable Animals
We are a grass-roots (all volunteer), non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. We help in many ways including: providing medical care and working to reduce over-population by funding spay/neuter services, helping to rescue and place homeless and mis-treated animals, assisting residents and animal control with these and other items, and working to provide humane education in our community.
Long term goal - Kalkaska county needs a humane society facility and a new animal control building (or perhaps a joint humane society and animal control building), and will strive to achieve that goal. In the meantime, we continue to help in all ways possible.
Since our inception, we have brought about a great deal of change which resulted in improvements at the Animal Control office. Animal Control, under the new Management of Sarah Feeley and Chuck Hill, strives to find homes for all of their adoptable animals. Sarah, Sandy (the previous shelter manager) and Chuck persevered even when a rescue of 80 animals (a rescue which we were involved in) resulted in a total of over 100 animals at their small facility. Over 90% of the animals were adopted out even though they had to care for them for many months. That is outstanding! We are grateful to Sarah and Chuck for the great job they are doing. We strive to continue to spay and neuter the majority of the pets at animal control to reduce overpopulation and to reduce costs to adoptees.
Less than 2 out of every 10 pets stay in their original home for their lifetime. The rest are either given away, sold, abandoned, become lost, or taken to animal shelters. The vast majority of the pets in animal shelters are not strays, they are turned in by people that no longer feel they can provide for them. Consequently, there are so very many wonderful pets to choose from who need a second chance. We promote and advertise adoptions and we work to end over-population by funding spaying and neutering. We also promote humane, compassionate attitudes toward animals. No animal deserves to suffer, and all pets deserve a loving home. Please join us in achieving these goals. There are so many ways to help - just pick one and you will feel fulfilled.
